He hasn’t signed an employment contract, and there’s no official record of his salary. But Filou is happy to show up for work at THERMOTEX every morning. For one, he gets chauffeured. And his role? Let’s say it’s rather loosely defi ned: This six-year-old Flat Coated Retriever enjoys plenty of freedom …

08:22 A.M.

About 20 minutes a er leaving Offenburg, Filou arrives at the parking lot in front of the main THERMOTEX building in Schutterwald. The moment Julia Czichon opens the trunk, the retriever is already on his way out..

Filou: ”Traffic can really get on your nerves sometimes – I can tell it does for my human. I constantly have to remind Julia to stay calm. But hey, that’s my job – it’s what I’m here for.“

09:35 A.M.

Next door is where Mylo lives. The former street dog now keeps an eye on Niklas, Julia Czichon’s brother. The two dogs get along well, even though they’re quite different.

Filou: ”I’m so happy that Mylo is now part of the THERMOTEX team, too. It’s great for me – I’m not so alone anymore. And it’s great for him – he can learn from me. After all, I’ve got a solid five-year head start. That said, he brings a lot of energy to the table with his own unique style. In any case, it’s a good feeling
knowing I’ve got a competent stand-in for when I’m on holiday.“

10:53 A.M.

For the past 30 minutes, marketing opportunities have been under discussion in the large meeting room. There are guests in the building. After the initial excitement about the unfamiliar faces, Filou is now completely relaxed..

Filou: ”Hmm. That guy’s pants smell interesting. He’s got a furry friend at home – smells like something with a bit of Munsterlander or maybe Border Collie. He’s well-behaved, though, and lets me nap in peace. Honestly, with all that blah-blah going on, it’s the only reasonable thing to do.“

12:23 P.M.

Lunchtime outdoors – with a game of catch. After a calm and relaxing morning, Filou is bursting with energy and ready to move.

Filou: ”How great is this!? No rain, a bit of blue sky, lots of green, and a ball. It’s not too cold and not too warm – perfect. My human’s not even wearing her coat. Though I do have to make sure she stays active – wouldn’t want her catching a cold. Maybe I should have her fetch the ball for a change.“

1:58 P.M.

The best appointment of the day: Filou has to wait a little until Helmut Czichon opens the door for him and his daughter – but it’s definitely worth it. It doesn’t take long before the bag of trets is opened and the first goodies are held right under his nose.

Filou: ”An unexpected lunch – now that’s something I can get behind! I don’t understand why Julia always starts arguing with her dad about things like ‚too much‘ or ‚not just like that‘. I mean, when she grabs a cookie, I don’t suddenly show up to lecture her about the risks of sugar. It’s totally fi ne that he spoils me a bit. I like him!“

3:01 P.M.

There’s always something new to discover in the THERMOTEX shipping department!

Filou: ”Ooooohhh! A brand new pallet! Just look how great I look on this thing. Can someone take a picture, please?“

4:03 P.M.

Back in Julia Czichon’s office. Things are quiet – apart from the occasional phone call and the clacking of a keyboard. Filou has grabbed his ball and is perfectly content.

Filou: ”Nice to relax again. It’s a real shame I’m not allowed to bring my ball along when we’re out and about at my company. But rules are rules: no toys! I get it – I wouldn’t want to make anyone jealous. I haven’t seen anyone else here with a ball, so that probably makes me a pretty special team member.“

5:20 P.M.

The computer lets out a so electric sigh as it shuts down for the day. Filou hears Julia Czichon calling out a “Bye!” to her brother in the office next door — but he’s already standing in the doorway, ready to go. Time to head to the car.

Filou: ”Finally! I wonder if the kids are home already? Maybe they’ve got friends over? The more hands there are to pet me, the better. Or should I check in with my human dad first? Or maybe just take a nap — I am feeling a bit tired after the day. Oh dear … even the end of the workday can be a challenge!“
